Wind energy provides renewable, clean electricity

Over the past several years, wind energy has become the fastest growing source of energy in the world. Wind energy provides renewable, clean electricity that is both economical and environmentally friendly. Wind turbines installed in pastures have no harmful effects on people, crop production, or livestock grazing. Wind is literally the new cash crop for farmers. Wind is one of the least expensive sources of electricity generation. As the fuel (wind) is free of cost, wind energy provides stable price for wind power production. To inquire about wind energy and received further information for landowners, small winds for your farm and home, or community wind projects, contact us or fill in the requested forms and a representative will be in touch with you to answer any questions.

Kansas, Meet Sunflower Wind

December 20, 2007 – A group of Kansas entrepreneurs announced today their plans to locate a wind turbine manufacturing operation in Hutchinson, Kansas. Sunflower Wind LLC has signed a contract which will lead to ownership of a large manufacturing building formerly owned by Eaton Corporation.

“We are excited that Sunflower will be moving into a 260,000 square foot portion of the manufacturing space that Eaton no longer needed,” said Dave Kerr, Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce President.

Kerr has been working with Sunflower, the City of Hutchinson, Reno County and Eaton over the last several months to fill the space left by Eaton’s 2006 decision to downsize or relocate certain portions of their hydraulics division. Sunflower will occupy the building immediately and begin making improvements that suit their manufacturing operation. This start-up has plans to employ over 250 people in Hutchinson by the end of 2010.

“It will be interesting to watch Sunflower’s development,” said Kerr. “We think Sunflower and Hutchinson are in a great position to support wind production as the US wind industry continues to gain momentum.”

Sunflower directors Dan Rasure, Goodland; Mike Pompeo, Wichita; Cynthia Strnad, Goodland; and Michael Schneider, McPherson have big plans for the wind industry in Kansas.

Kansas is 700 miles from 90% of the US wind industry,” said Dan Rasure, managing director. “Our plans include manufacturing, assembling, constructing, monitoring and maintaining wind turbines. And in some cases owning our own farms.”

According to Rasure, Sunflower will combine the world’s best turbine technology with Kansas based manufacturing to deliver in demand turbines to projects across the central United States.

“Manufacturing is the largest segment of the wind industry,” said Rasure. “Kansas has the right mix of labor to support our operation and Hutchison is an ideal location for our first major manufacturing operation.”

Sunflower also plans to have operations in other parts of Kansas as the company grows. It currently has employees in Goodland and Colby focusing on administrative tasks and land leasing for potential wind farm sites. The next 30 days are critical according to Rasure as Sunflower plans to complete fundraising and finalize agreements with major suppliers and customers.

“Sunflower Wind LLC brings a new aspect to manufacturing in Hutchinson,” said Kerr. “We are pleased that they chose Hutchinson as a major manufacturing location.”
